Ch San Pellegrino di Boccalupo Fch - Italian Greyhound

On Sunday, July 17th, 2011 at the Foothills Gazehound Clubs Field Event my little Italian Greyhound  - San Pellegrino Di Boccalupo was certified on a very long and tight turning grass course.  He ran with a Basenji (thanks to Barbara his owner). True to San's nature he ran with great speed, pure heart, and was keen on the lure and impossible to catch when he finished. Pat Ingram said she "did not have a problem giving him his certification — what a run"!  With my paper in hand and a round of applause from the audience we had made a little history.  Pat told me that he was the first IG to be certified since 1980 by the Foothills Gazehound Club and, she was sure, of all of Alberta.  My reply to this was "we were honoured to be the first and very grateful to the Alberta Lure Coursing Association for all their wealth of knowledge and ongoing support".

I just wanted to tell my club (ALCA) members thank you!  You supported me and San when most warned me of the impending dangers and how my lack of knowledge would bring doom on this little dog.  All the warnings made me think very very hard and take extra precautions in making this decision to certify him.  San and I have worked hard to be ready and in condition when the time was right.  In the end I know this dog and he was more than ready and able.  In fact I felt he could be in just as much danger when running with his friends in the back yard. I am not recommending that every IG should or will be able to course competitively but for him it was in his DNA.  His grandmother was a six-time IG Coursing Champion in the USA.  On his sire side he comes from great coursing stock in Europe.  Ultimately the truth is that he loves to chase.

Again, a big thank you to all of you!  It was a thrill to watch him shoot out of my hands —  take the lead — make a couple of good passes/crossovers and never loose the lure.

It is with a special running mate "Willow" that San was able to reach our goals of becoming a champion.

In 2014 San became the first Italian Greyhound to be awarded a CKC Canadian Field Champion.
In 2014 San was awarded "Aggregate Award for Lure Coursing of the Year"
